The Rollerball!

A few weeks ago I visited the local theatre for a showing of Moulin Rouge in support of the Imperial Theatre. This weekend I had the pleasure of attending another local fundraiser, for The Resource Centre for Youth (TRC), a local not-for-profit organization. "The Resource Centre for Youth (TRC) provides a safe and encouraging environment for our youth to explore their full potential."

The organization had the brilliant idea to host a 'Rollerball" as a fundraiser for the centre, featuring a derby game by our local Fog City Rollers as the entertainment!

The idea was to get all dressed up for cocktails but watch a derby game. They served mini burgers (even vegetarian ones!) & of course drinks. There was a silent auction, as well as a live one but those derby girls demand some serious attention!

I'm really starting to fully embrace the idea of fundraisers, especially their potential for wearing fabulous clothes! Before moving to the east coast I had my favorite hometown charities who's events I always attended but it is only recently, after fully falling in love with my adopted city of Saint John that I have discovered new places to support, events to attend & people to adore!
Check out one of the organizers/youth workers, my friend Letti & I!

We have rockin hair & are generally awesome.
Besides being full of fabulous in her own right, she is also shares my love of crafts & glitter. Check out the fully fabulous Rollerball Trophy she made!!

I wish I had great photos of my adorable dress but the lighting was dim. I have one picture of Letti & I in our dresses (mine from Torrid, her's from Pennington's) but we look like some strange breed of cheerleaders with our awkward poses. (I really really need to figure out the proper stance for having my picture taken! You think after doing this for almost a year I'd have it figured out, but clearly not.)
However I've worn this dress before on the blog as you can see here so I decided to snap some close ups of the accessories I chose this time.

Tiny & cute rosebud necklace from Forever21 - love that the chain is pink too!

These earrings were one of my first etsy purchases..about 4 years ago!

A score for $8 a WalMart! I've been looking at similar much more expensive
alternatives to this lately so this was great last minute find.
If I truly love them, a more expensive, long lasting pair can be found

In keeping with the pink, I threw on these long lasting leggings from
Voluptuous in Toronto for some extra color!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Friends!

I'm not exactly Halloween ready this year as we have decided to move!
(yep, we get the keys tomorrow & only decided on Saturday...)
Instead of a costume post I remembered this great hair day with one of my favorite accessories.
The hair piece was made by the gorgeous Christina of I Do Cake Toppers & seems to be in the spirit of the season...

New Brunswick Fashion Week - Overview

Media Party, Fashion Forward, & NBFW runway show

What a week! I'm not going to lie, I'm exhausted.  Between trying to adjust to my new schedule & flying out the door each evening to events, I'm so glad my Saturday consists of a latte from my favorite barista & a red velvet cupcake from our new local bakery!  It is also Canadian Thanksgiving weekend so I have 4 delicious days off with nothing much to do!!

As I enjoyed my coffee & cupcake this morning I pondered today's post.
After attending the Fashion Event last night I wondered what approach i should take in covering the event.  There was some fabulous fashion, some baffling decisions & some obvious hard work, but as a Plus Size blogger I wanted to offer my perspective.  My intention was to focus specifically on the plus size pieces, accessories & overall general tone of the affair, since it was my first fashion week.  I asked about plus size long before the event & was told specifically there would be plus size representation, in models, clothing & with at least one local designer - exciting!!!
Unfortunately the 'plus size' component seemed to have disappeared by the time the event came to fruition.  There were no plus size fashions, designers or models*.  Although I was glad to be included in the event & have my opinion valued, I'm left wondering, as a blogger, what do I say?

What I can say is this, we have some amazing local talent & contributions to the fashion world!
Our stylists work hard & come up with stunning looks.

Our local designers have vision & talent.

Our shops have amazing product & staff.

And our local bloggers support their community & fashion! Check out my fellow bloggers & their different takes on the events of the week;

I was really enjoying all the opportunities I had to dress up this week! This outfit was put together of simple affordable components but I was so happy with how it all came together. The dress is several years old from Reitman's, top from Old Navy, shoes came from Payless & I layered several necklaces. Oh, the clutch was a score at Winner's, from XOXO.

Overall I had a fun night out, with lots of great company & saw so many beautiful, fashionable things. Do I wish that my plus size community had of had representation? Absolutely - but there is always the spring collections, right?

*there was a plus size model in the hair competition, but not in the runway show

I Whip My Hair

Ya, I did it. I once again went for a dramatic change in my hair. Being blonde was excellent but my winter white skin is already encroaching on my look & so I felt it was time for a change.

I put it off a little longer than wanted in order to wait & get back to Ontario & my Vanessa.  I can't imagine making a dramatic hair choice without her. The day after Phil & Tiff's wedding I headed to Toronto so we could brunch then dye. Oh & shop... we totally shopped (that could/will be a whole other post!).

These are some different 'outfit' photos I took, showing more of my 'look' than my clothes.
shirt from Torrid
capris from addition elle, shoes birkenstock

I wanted to to a bit of a shoot on my parent's property without dragging out a tripod etc. the results were different, but I think fun!

Just a little look at my previous Ontario life...

So, what do you think of the new & latest, fabulous look?  Vanessa also turned my husband's shaggy locks into some seriously smokin' hair... but he won't let me show you. *giggle*

If you are in Toronto, or will be & want some fabulous hair, Vanessa at House of Lords is the only girl worth seeing.

Sorry folks, but I just can't resist ending this post with this;

Esthetically Fabulous!

Excuse the egotistical sounding post title but I swear it will make poetic sense momentarily.

Since moving to New Brunswick I've been on the hunt for a local stylist/salon that has got what it takes.  I'm not THAT picky... I just want a shade of blonde that isn't yellow or brassy (or as I learned today - a cool blonde). I've had one turn it yellow & pretend there wasn't anything wrong with it & one who tried to dye my hair blonde instead of bleaching - leaving a huge line
where my old & new colours met.
I had heard of Essential Esthetics from my friend & fellow blogger Barb but hadn't made it in there until today.

Today I met Marissa.
Totally adorable, totally fabulous Marissa.

OK it is a phone picture but I thought I'd throw it in for fun!!

Anyways, I have been having a few days of feeling unattractive & over a week of bad hair days but Marissa fixed me right up!
She did up my colour, giving me a fabulous shade of blonde that I adore & a richer dark underneath.  She also gave me some spot on bangs!

If you haven't checked out Essential Esthetics on Union Street yet - you need to.
The ladies are super friendly & know their stuff!
Make up, nails, hair, waxing, relaxation massage, teeth whitening; they've got you covered!

I felt awesome after my appointment (photographic evidence)!

Dress; George
Oh, & by the way - how cute is this dress? I bought it 2 years ago wore it once but pulled it out again this summer & am loving it!

Evolution of Fabulous Hair Pt.2

So, picking up where I left off yesterday, the above is yet another of Vanessa's masterpieces. I had never ever had green in my hair so we thought... why the hell not?  It isn't a look that lasted long. No matter how amazing Vanessa is, everyone has a colour or two that wasn't meant for them.
Green (and yellow) was mine.

This look was a favorite! Purples & pinks in various shades with a serious section of blonde...
It was hot hot hot & definitely caught everyones eye!!
I think I would have wore this look forever, if it hadn't of been for a potential job interview (which I didn't even get!!).

Below is the modified 'job' look I went for instead.

I honestly adored this look too, even though it wasn't pink.  It was probably the nicest shade of 'brownish' I've ever had.

At this point there was an interlude with a rather unfortunate cut & colour...
for which there will be no photographs.

Ok! Back to it!

These two were pretty similar, just a different style of bang as I tried to decide... what next!

What next was lightening up!
A lighter red with blonde all throughout! Was a great sunnier look for my second summer on the East Coast & first summer living in Saint John!

Which pretty much brings me up to my current look!
This photo was taken in early spring '11. So happy with the shade of blond with my natural brown making an appearance as well!
I've since grown the bangs out for a slightly different look - which you see in most of my outfit posts.

So which one of these looks did you like best? Would love to know!

Evolution of Fabulous hair - part 1

It is getting close to that time... the time when my roots are about to peek out & show their/my true colour.

For those of you who only know me thru the blog, or since I came to the East Coast, chances are you have only ever seen the above look (with possibly a little more root from time to time & probably straight...) but there have been so very many looks, so many colours, so many cuts!
Since it is another rainy day & I'm considering staying in my PJ's I thought it might be fun to take a look back & show you some past hair styles.

So this is back when Vanessa first did my hair... so circa myspace days.  There is a pattern to my looks... in the summer I can't be bothered to try & straighten my hair.

There were several stages of orange before we moved into full blown reds, but these looks I was particularly fond of.  There was even a mostly black look with just a bit of red before I decided I wanted to go blonde.  While stripping my hair of colour to get to blonde we hit an amazing surprise. Below  is the results.

No not the kid (although he is pretty amazing) but the colour! This peachy keen look is still one of my favorites.  The cut was one I returned to several times as well.

So after the peach phase I did get to the blonde, with a bit of orange crush underneath.  This was probably the only day I liked my hair during that period.

So here is my scrumptious stylist/Ontario bff Vanessa & me, rocking some seriously glowing orange hair.

This only brings me up to a few years ago...
Look for the next post to include pinks, purples.. even a bit of green!

Would love if you shared your favorite style, cut or colour!
Email me a pic & I might include it in a future post!
